Over 225 years Hainsworth has developed a deeper understanding of the world of woven textiles, more so than any other company in the market place today. By staying close to our suppliers, customers and their end-users, our research drives product innovation and the future of textile specification and application.

With a fully integrated, vertical textile mill, Hainsworth carries out every process from the selection of raw wool to finished cloth in-house. Our expertise is in selecting the appropriate ingredients to use in our fully equipped mill, which includes our own spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing, printing and fabric conversion machinery. This, combined with our UKAS accredited testing laboratory No. 4112, gives Hainsworth its unique competitive edge.

Wool is a unique natural fibre with endless possibilities for the creation of textiles for markets where technical performance is critical. As a multifunctional, non-flammable, absorbent and insulating material, wool was the foundation of our business and is still at the heart of our product research and development. It continues to allow Hainsworth to push the boundaries of wool, and wool combined with other fibres, to meet specific customer needs and challenges.

In 1975, Hainsworth was also first to market in the UK with DuPont’s Nomex®. This revolutionary fibre provides heat and flame resistance and, with the addition of DuPont’s Kevlar®, enhanced protection for emergency services personnel and military forces. By researching and understanding how these two fibres react, under the most hostile of conditions, Hainsworth developed a cutting edge heat and flame retardant fabric known as Hainsworth® TITAN. This fabric technology combines Nomex® and Kevlar® increasing thermal protection and breathability, allowing garment manufacturers to reduce overall garment weight and bulk.

Through strict control processes recognised in our BSI ISO9001 Quality Standards Mark, for design, development and manufacturing, Hainsworth combines innovative product development with the ability to deliver consistent manufacturing to exacting specifications.

Our development work has also been recognised with the receipt of a number of awards including The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation and DuPont’s European Innovation Award.
